LIKE TRYING ON A MUSLIN….

Like a lot of sewers out there, I have been checking Project Sewn Season 3 for updates. Most of the contestants represent blogs I have been following for a while, so I am not enjoying it for the “fight”, but rather for the expression of their superb skills and creativity I have been admiring. On a side note, this project is what prompts me to start my own blog. I made my submission in the sewalong, and what better time is there to start a blog than when potentially over three thousand seamstresses might check it out?! Like one of my favorite bloggers would say, Hah! 🙂

If you are wondering about the title for this post, I am trying to customize WordPress to work for me hence the comparison to trying on a muslin. Can’t say their “patterns” work flawlessly for me, I don’t seem to be able to change the font or colors or much of anything for that matter, but it challenges me and people say I love a good challenge, so here it goes…

Project Sewn – Fashion Icon Challenge: inspired by Audrey Hepburn

My submission was a dress I made for my daughter. Audrey Hepburn is her fashion idol, and I was getting my inspiration from one of Audrey’s iconic looks.

I don’t always like the directions fashion takes these days, but I find some elements inspiring. I found this skirt on Moda Operandi and I liked the double length with transparency effect for eyelet.

Lining

One last thing to mention about this project is the belt. It is self-drafted and has a lot of hand stitching involved.

Belt with a bow

I know that there are a few tutorials out there on how to make a belt with a bow, but I thought mine was somewhat different. It was made to match the shoes, black canvas with gold speckles, and it gave a nice finish to the outfit. If anyone is interested in a tutorial on deets, just let me know in the comments and I will see what I can do.
